Advocates for Children to Offer Darkness to Light Training April 26
Darkness to Light’s award-winning child sexual abuse prevention training, Stewards of Children, will be offered in Bartow County by facilitators with Advocates for Children. On April 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Allatoona Resource Center, Advocates will hold a community training that is free to adults. The training teaches adults how to recognize the signs of sexual abuse, how to respond to suspicions of abuse, and gives simple ways to minimize opportunities for abuse in organizations and our community. This training is ideal for any adult in our community who has interactions with children. Local businesses and organizations, large or small, are encouraged to participate, in particular those that work with children such as youth sports organizations, school districts, faith centers, and non-profits.
Advocates for Children share a vision of a world free of child abuse; a world in which all children are loved, protected, nurtured and able to grow up healthy. According to experts, one in 10 children – or 400,000 each year – will experience child sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children is designed to change that number in the right direction with a focus on prevention, education, and intervention of child sexual abuse.
Advocates for Children provides direct care to children from birth to age 18 who have been victims of abuse and neglect, including a nationally accredited Children’s Advocacy Center. In addition, the organization offers preventive and educational programming that focuses on crucial elements of family wellness.
