Teen Pregnancy Facts

n Bartow County's teen pregnancy rate means about 30 girls in each high school will get pregnant, on average, each year.

n Only 1/3 of teenage mothers receive their high school diplomas.

n Two-thirds of teen mothers drop out of school. One third go on welfare in the first year, half within five years.

n Nearly 80 percent of unmarried teen mothers end up on welfare.

n The daughters of teen mothers are 22% more likely to become teen mothers themselves.

n The sons of teen mothers are 13% more likely to end up in prison.

Citizens concerned about the high rate of Teen Pregnancy in our county meet monthly to develop and implement programs to address this concern. The successful "Baby Think It Over" infant simulators are available to schools throughout the county.

Participating schools are:

n Cass Middle School
n Adairsville High School
n Woodland Middle School
n Woodland High School
n Cartersville Middle School
n South Central Middle School

The "Baby Think It Over Program"

Infant simulators give the students a flavor for the amount of time and work it takes to care for a baby. The students "check out" a baby over the weekend, and actually change their attitudes dramatically.

An unwanted or unplanned pregnancy is a crying shame.
You can go farther when you don't go all the way!

We Now Have The Empathy Belly!

The Empathy Belly is the most realistic pregnancy simulator available.

We always have a need for infant carriers,
clothing and infant supplies.
