Flowering Branch Children’s Shelter Program
The shining star in Advocates family of services is our residential program for abused, neglected and runaway youth. Flowering Branch provides a safe and loving place with individual bedrooms for six boys and six girls at any one time.
Professional staff is on duty 24 hours per day. Youth receive case management services, individual and family counseling, development of social and independent living skills, and assistance with achieving a high school diploma or GED.
Flowering Branch utilizes a Primary Caregiver Model assigning each youth with one adult to serve as parental figure. Staff, mentors, volunteers, and community partners serve as extended family to the youth in our care. Our goal is to assess and stabilize these youth in our community by partnering with non-abusing parents or relatives, foster and adoptive families, while maintaining community ties such as original school placement.
In addition to basic care, transportation to and from school, love, attention, and friendship, residents are enriched by:
- Music therapy
- Art
- Homework/tutoring assistance
- Nutritious meals
- Recreation (Including: horseback riding, movies, competitive and non-competitive sports, gardening, educational field trips)
- Holiday activities
Flowering Branch offers student internship opportunities for rising professionals in human services, social work, and non-profit careers.
