When Advocates for Children direct care staff member David Baker first picked up a guitar 10 years ago, he had no idea how it might change his life. The Cass High School graduate and computer science professional knew he wanted to bring that same experience to the children who live at the Flowering Branch Children’s Shelter. In October 2015 Baker sought change in his life, following the advice of friends and joining a local church. For the ninth year it also welcomed the Spring Benefit for Advocates for Children, an event that raises funds for the organization’s mission to prevent and treat child abuse in all its forms. People pass the yellow and black Safe Place signs all the time, some never knowing significance that the denotation might mean. The signs indicate that the employees at that business or staff at that facility are trained and ready to help a young person in crisis. March 19-25 marks week of awareness for Safe Place, a national youth outreach and prevention program for young people in need of immediate help and safety. Advocates for Children to Offer Training for Education Advocates

In its efforts to prevent and treat child abuse in all its forms, Advocates for Children provides community services for children, including those currently in the foster care system. One such program under the umbrella of Advocates for Children offers children who are abused or neglected a voice in the court system. The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer assesses the child’s situation and reports to the judge what is in the best interest of the child with a goal of a safe, permanent home for each child. CARTERSVILLE, Ga.- Oct. 3, 2016: The 12th annual Duck Dash 5K and Fun Run to support Advocates for Children are in the books after a cool October morning start for the event that attracted runners from Northwest Georgia and beyond. About 100 participants took part in the event Saturday, Oct. 1. Money was collected for Advocates for Children through race registrations and donations. Early Bird Registration Extended for Duck Dash 5K and Fun Run

CARTERSVILLE, Ga.- Sept. 16, 2016: Those wanting to pre-register for the Duck Dash 5K and Fun Run, benefiting Advocates for Children, have a few extra days to enjoy the early bird registration prices. Early bird registration has been extended to 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 20, 2016. Prices will increase after that by $10 for the 5K and $5 for the Fun Run. CARTERSVILLE, Ga.- Aug. 24, 2016: On Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 runners will lace up their running shoes for the 12th Annual Advocates for Children Duck Dash. Registration has already started for the event that will benefit Advocates for Children.
