Annual Meeting – Appreciation Dinner

Advocates for Children started the new year of 2017 by thanking donors, volunteers, corporate partners, and other supporters of the organization at the annual appreciation dinner Tuesday. Community members gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of 2016, look forward to 2017 and recognize some of those who dedicated themselves to Advocates’ mission of preventing and treating child abuse in all its forms.

It is the contribution of those volunteers, donors, and partners that makes the organization’s reach even larger Advocates for Children President and CEO Karen White explained during her welcome to the audience. “The one thing that makes this evening special is that each one of us has a shared belief that every child matters and is deserving of a healthy childhood, said White. “Our donors who give generously so that we can offer our services at no cost. Our volunteers who devote hundreds of hours to advocating, mentoring and healing. Our community partners who hold hands with us to create a safety net for our families. And our staff, who work tirelessly and often thanklessly to change lives.”

Duck Derby

On Saturday, May 6, 2017 thousands of ducks were dumped into the water at Terminus Wake Park, each carrying with it the hopes of winning $10,000 from grand prize sponsor Kennesaw Transportation, Inc. Chaired by Nicole Hughes, this year’s Duck Derby committee included Josh Brock, Danielle Graham, Abby Hooper, Tina Hudson, Lara Jeanneret, Jud McGiveran, Maurni Moss and Howard Sthay. There was plenty for the crowd to experience, including food trucks, bounce houses, games, wakeboarding demonstrations and the opening of Terminus Wake Park’s new Aqua Park attraction. Ducks, which were sold for $5 each or in various package deals, offered each person a chance to win the $10,000 or numerous other prizes. The winner of the $10,000 grand prize was Lloyd Burke.

Stay tuned for upcoming Duck Derby events.

Giving Tuesday

What is #GivingTuesday?

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, November 28, 2017, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

Spring Benefit

Spring brings with it images of warmer days, flowers blooming, and a rebirth of vibrancy after the chill and muted tones of winter. For the ninth year it also welcomed the Spring Benefit for Advocates for Children, an event that raises funds for the organization’s mission to prevent and treat child abuse in all its forms.

This year’s event raised approximately $121,000 from ticket sales, sponsorships and the live and silent auctions of more than 200 items.
