First Steps Program

Offered by Advocates for Children, the First Steps program is a free service that allows trained parent educators to provide support, parenting information, referrals, and services to any new mother. Educators initially visit new moms at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center, maintaining contact with the parent for the next three months.

First Steps services include providing families with a localized community resource guide, referrals to relevant resources and age-appropriate information in at least the following categories:

  • Maternal Health
  • Newborn and Child Health
  • Home and Child Safety
  • Community and Family Safety
  • School Readiness
  • Family Economic Self-Sufficiency
